Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens

Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens (Foundation and Friends) is a membership-based organisation whose mission is to encourage the use and enjoyment of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust (Trust)'s gardens as outstanding places for horticulture, science, recreation, culture and education. Foundation and Friends runs regular activities and events for its members to connect the community to the Gardens and to raise money to support the Trust for projects that otherwise might not be possible.

Projects

Foundation and Friends have funded a diverse range of projects including:

  • research into the prehistoric Wollemi Pine
  • renovation of Lion Gate Lodge, a popular venue for functions in the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney
  • interpretive signage to increase understanding of plants and birds at our three gardens
  • restoration of the Palace Rose Garden, displaying roses that will grow in Sydney using environmentally friendly horticultural procedures.
  • creating a new Camellia Garden displaying beautiful winter-flowering species and cultivar Camellias near Woolloomooloo Gate
  • the Jungle, a pristine Blue Mountains rainforest with ferns and towering coachwood and sassafras trees
  • and much more...

Members' Benefits

Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens members enjoy a range of benefits including the opportunity to volunteer as well as take part in some of the many activities each year within the Gardens. Members are entitled to a range of discounts in the shops, restaurants and on the Foundation and Friends' range of activities and events. They are also kept closer to the work of the Gardnens through the seasonal magazine 'The Gardens'.

Members can play an even greater role in supporting the vital work of the Botanic Gardens Trust by becoming a Waratah member and giving an annual donation in addition to membership dues. Members who volunteer for the Foundation and Friends do so in many and varied roles, such as assisting with administration, activities and events, exhibitions, propagating and selling plants and catering.

History

In 2012 the Royal Botanic Gardens Foundation and the Friends of the Botanic Gardens merged to form Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens. This bought together the energies, expertise and passions of these previously seperate organisations to enable us, together, to achieve even greater success in supporting your Gardens.
